One-off ‘911 Turbo Remastered’ auction a highlight of 2024 Icons of Porsche festival

RM Sotheby’s is set to auction the one-of-a-kind ‘911 Turbo Remastered’ during this year’s Icons of Porsche festival in Dubai. This model was first introduced at last year’s festival to launch the global celebrations for the 50th anniversary of the Turbo.

The auction will kick off online on Wednesday, November 20, 2024, and will conclude on Sunday, November 24, with the final bids taken live during the festival.

“Icons of Porsche has become a cornerstone event for the car community in this region, and RM Sotheby’s is thrilled to participate in this year’s festival,” said Duccio Lopresto, Business Development Director at RM Sotheby’s. “Wrapping up the auction at Icons of Porsche will draw new attention and excitement to the event.”

The unique ‘911 Turbo Remastered’ serves as a modern interpretation of the original 911 Turbo prototype presented to Louise Piëch in 1974. It exemplifies the extensive capabilities of the Sonderwunsch special request program, which operates under Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur and Porsche Classic, offering a high level of personalization with the slogan: “You dream it, we build it.”

Tickets for the Icons of Porsche festival are now available online at IconsOfPorsche.com.

About the 911 Turbo Remastered by Sonderwunsch

The 911 Turbo Remastered project was a collaboration between Style Porsche, Porsche Exclusive Manufaktur, and the Porsche Middle East and Africa regional office.

“This remarkable car not only showcases the possibilities within our Porsche personalization programs,” stated Manfred Bräunl, CEO of Porsche Middle East and Africa FZE. “It also reflects the adventurous and pioneering spirit of Porsche, inspired by the very first 911 Turbo.”

The project draws inspiration from the original prototype commissioned for Louise Piëch, the daughter of Ferdinand Porsche, which was produced on July 17, 1974, and gifted to her for her 70th birthday.

Unlike standard production 911 Turbos, this prototype featured a narrow-chassis 911 Carrera body with a prominent Turbo rear wing, along with a distinctive red interior made from chequered Tartan fabric personally selected by Piëch.

“The initial concept for this project began two years ago,” Bräunl noted. “We aimed to create a modern version of a truly unique car. With an abundance of Porsche icons to choose from, we decided to ‘remaster’ the original 911 Turbo prototype.”

Exterior Enhancements

The original car had a standard silver exterior, but the Sonderwunsch Turbo features the historically significant ‘GT silver,’ which is now a metallic standard color for all 911 Turbo models.

The vehicle includes Exclusive Manufaktur options such as the Sport Design Package and color-matched rear side intakes and mirrors. Certain components are accented with matte black paint to echo the original 1974 appearance. Unique decals designed by Style Porsche add a subtle detail under the rear wing. Porsche Classic also approved the use of the original Turbo rear badge.

The classic black Fuchs alloy wheels have been recreated with a custom paint job to resemble the style of the original vehicle.

Interior Design

The interior features a modified version of the Heritage Design Classic package, complete with retro-style green illuminated dials. Custom trim replaces the usual leather and pepita fabric, featuring the original red and blue chequered Tartan pattern, including in the glove compartment and trunk.

This unique interior showcases a two-tone design not found in current Porsche models, combining Lipstick Red and black. The design includes hand-stitched detailing and Turbo lettering embroidered on the headrests.

Final touches include a PDK gear selector made of aluminum and a custom key that incorporates the chequered tartan pattern.

About the Porsche 911 Turbo (Type 992.1)

The Porsche 911 Turbo type 992 boasts a 3,745 cm³ six-cylinder boxer engine with symmetrical VTG turbochargers, generating 427 kW (580 PS), which is 30 kW (40 PS) more than its predecessor. It features an eight-speed PDK gearbox designed for Turbo specifications, achieving 0-100 km/h in just 2.8 seconds and a top speed of 320 km/h.

About the Sonderwunsch Program

The Porsche Sonderwunsch program offers bespoke customization services for sports cars, combining craftsmanship with attention to detail. This modern reinterpretation of the late 1970s program allows for individualized, one-off cars, co-created with the customer.

Services include color and material requests during production and modifications after delivery. From new colors and features to entirely custom vehicles, the Sonderwunsch team collaborates closely with customers to bring their unique visions to life.

With the Sonderwunsch program, customers can create a limited edition car tailored to their specifications, leading a team of designers and engineers to develop their dream vehicle over a period of up to three years.
