Corvette has revealed a glimpse of its performance future with the debut of two radical concept cars at The Quail, A Motorsports Gathering: the Corvette CX and Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo. These striking designs may never see full-scale production, but they set the tone for the brand’s design language and performance ambitions in the years ahead.
A Modern Take on Corvette Heritage
Over seven decades, Corvette has cemented itself as America’s sports car, and these two new concepts prove the nameplate still has plenty of ground to break. The CX and CX.R blend futuristic styling with cues that pay homage to classic Corvette DNA, while pushing performance and aerodynamics into uncharted territory.
Phil Zak, Chevrolet’s executive design director, described the approach as unleashing creativity beyond the boundaries of production. “The CX and CX.R Vision Gran Turismo show how we’re defining Corvette’s design direction for the future,” he explained.
Corvette CX: Road and Track Redefined
The CX concept represents an uncompromised supercar designed for both road and circuit. Its low-slung stance, fighter-jet-inspired canopy, and long, sculpted profile make it instantly recognizable as a Corvette, yet boldly futuristic.
Underneath the bodywork, active aerodynamics and a cutting-edge Vacuum Fan System create massive downforce, ensuring maximum stability at high speeds. A fully electric all-wheel-drive setup delivers over 2,000 horsepower, with four motors providing torque vectoring to each wheel. A 90-kWh battery integrated into the chassis ensures balanced weight distribution and a low center of gravity.
Inside, the CX is no less dramatic. The canopy opens forward like a jet cockpit, welcoming driver and passenger into a cabin draped in Inferno Red ballistic textile, forged carbon fiber, silicone leather, and milled aluminum. A digital windscreen provides real-time performance data, while controls are built directly into the steering wheel for total driver focus.
Corvette CX.R Vision Gran Turismo: Racing Without Limits
If the CX reimagines the roadgoing Corvette, the CX.R Vision Gran Turismo (VGT) is its purebred racing sibling. Designed exclusively for competition, it pushes the boundaries of Corvette’s racing legacy while giving gamers the chance to experience it firsthand in Gran Turismo 7.
The CX.R VGT adopts the signature yellow-and-black livery familiar from Corvette Racing’s GT cars. A more aggressive aerodynamic package, reduced weight, and a lower stance highlight its racing intent. Inside, luxury materials give way to raw carbon fiber, lightweight seating, and heavily bolstered support for track use.
Performance is nothing short of breathtaking. Building on the CX’s electrified foundation, the CX.R pairs three electric motors with a high-revving 2.0-liter twin-turbo V8, capable of spinning up to 15,000 rpm. Combined output? A staggering 2,000 hp, delivered through an advanced dual-clutch transmission and all-wheel drive.
From Concept Stage to Virtual Reality
While these machines won’t be hitting the roads, fans won’t have to imagine driving them for long. Thanks to a collaboration with Polyphony Digital, both the CX and CX.R VGT will be available in Gran Turismo 7, giving enthusiasts around the world a chance to experience Corvette’s vision of the future from the driver’s seat.
