eFuel Initiative: Bentley’s Commitment to Emission Reduction
Bentley recently hosted the world’s first global media drive utilizing sustainable eFuel, reflecting the brand’s ongoing commitment to minimizing its environmental footprint, especially during international media events. The event achieved a remarkable 93% reduction in vehicle emissions, thanks to the innovative use of eFuel and renewable electricity. Guests experienced a 30% decrease in carbon emissions per person compared to previous events.
Innovative eFuel Production
The eFuel, developed in collaboration with Porsche at the Haru Oni pilot plant in Chile, is a fully synthetic fuel created from captured CO₂ and hydrogen produced through renewable energy. The blend used for the drive consisted of 75% eFuel and 25% traditional gasoline, significantly lowering tailpipe emissions. All vehicles in the fleet, including the Continental GT Speed and supporting chauffeur fleet, operated on this eFuel, while 100% renewable electricity powered the hybrid batteries.
Scenic Driving Experience
Participants drove through iconic mountain passes, covering 8,000 miles and climbing a total of 1,400,000 feet over seven days, while navigating over 4,500 hairpin turns. The fourth-generation Continental GT Speed boasts impressive performance stats, achieving 29 g/km CO2 emissions and 217 mpg.
Sustainability Beyond the Drive
In addition to reduced emissions from vehicles, Bentley implemented eco-friendly practices at the event location, including a fully renewable-powered hotel, sustainable charging stations, and a strict no single-use plastic policy. Carbon emissions from international flights were offset through carbon credits.
The eFuel Journey
eFuels, produced from renewable energy-sourced hydrogen and atmospheric CO₂, offer a near CO2-neutral alternative for existing vehicles without requiring modifications. The Haru Oni pilot plant aims to produce 100,000 liters annually, demonstrating the viability of eFuel technology. Bentley continues to explore alternative fuels as part of its long-term sustainability strategy, with all models compatible with renewable fuels.
