the all-new 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron marks a pivotal moment for Audi as it embraces electrification. Positioned between the smaller Q4 e-tron and the larger Q8 e-tron, the Q6 e-tron plays a crucial role in Audi’s strategy to attract new customers. This vehicle isn’t just a facelift; it represents Audi’s vision for the future of luxury electric vehicles.

Innovative Platform and Design

The Q6 e-tron is built on the Premium Platform Electric (PPE), also used in the Porsche Macan EV. This platform is key to the Volkswagen Group’s strategy for its premium brands, offering versatility for both cars and SUVs. The Q6 e-tron features a refreshed interior, enhanced technology—including a passenger display screen—and improved driving dynamics.

Striking Exterior

The Q6 e-tron sports a modern SUV design with a wheelbase of 113.7 inches, providing ample passenger space while maintaining maneuverability. Its sleek, sculpted surfaces enhance aerodynamics and give the vehicle a sporty yet luxurious presence. The closed Singleframe grille, first introduced on the e-tron GT, adds visual appeal, particularly in lighter color options.

Exterior Dimensions:

  • Wheelbase: 113.7 inches
  • Length: 187.8 inches
  • Width: 76.3 inches
  • Height: 66.6 inches

Luxurious and Functional Interior

True to Audi’s luxury heritage, the Q6 e-tron features high-quality materials throughout, from the doors to the dashboard. The color contrasts create a serene and sophisticated atmosphere, complemented by subtle ambient lighting. However, the extensive use of high-gloss piano black may require frequent cleaning to maintain its elegance.

Spacious Cabin

Accommodating up to five passengers, the Q6 e-tron offers generous headroom and legroom, though the rear seat might feel snug for three adults. With 30.2 cubic feet of cargo space behind the rear seats—expandable to 60.2 cubic feet with the split-folding seats—this SUV is practical for everyday use. Additionally, it boasts a towing capacity of 4,400 pounds.

Interior Dimensions:

  • Front Headroom: 38.5 inches
  • Cargo Volume (behind 2nd row): 30.2 ft³
  • Total Cargo Volume: 60.2 ft³

Advanced Technology and User Experience

In our digital age, cars have become extensions of our tech-laden lives, and the Q6 e-tron is no exception. The vehicle incorporates a new Digital Stage interior design featuring an 11.9-inch driver display and a 14.5-inch infotainment touchscreen. The layout keeps the driver’s focus at the forefront.

Passenger Touchscreen

For the first time, Audi offers a 10.9-inch passenger touchscreen, allowing front-seat passengers to assist with navigation or enjoy streaming content. This screen discreetly powers down when not in use, ensuring an uncluttered aesthetic.

Augmented Reality Features

The available head-up display enhances navigation by showing speed, traffic signs, and turn arrows, making it particularly effective for navigating complex European roadways.

Premium Sound Systems

Audi offers two available Bang & Olufsen sound systems, featuring speakers in the front headrests that create separate audio zones for the driver, enhancing comfort during calls and navigation.

Comprehensive Safety Features

The Q6 e-tron comes equipped with a suite of advanced safety features, including:

  • Adaptive cruise control
  • Lane change warning
  • Exit warning
  • Collision avoidance assist
  • Emergency brake assist
  • Traffic sign recognition
  • Swerve assist

An optional Adaptive Cruise Assist Plus further enhances driving convenience. The new Audi Assistant, a voice-activated system that understands 23 languages, can control over 800 vehicle functions, providing a user-friendly experience.

Battery and Charging: Two Performance Options

The Q6 e-tron offers two configurations, with an RS model expected to join in 2025. Both versions are equipped with dual electric motors and an 800V 100 kWh battery. Charging on a Level 2 charger takes approximately 11.5 hours for a full charge, while a DC fast charger can boost the battery from 10% to 80% in just 21 minutes. The base Q6 e-tron has an EPA-estimated range of 492 km, delivering 422 horsepower, which can increase to 456 hp when launch control is activated. The SQ6 e-tron, aimed at performance enthusiasts, provides slightly less range at 444 KM but boasts a peak output of 509 hp with launch control.

Driving Impressions

We had the opportunity to test both the Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron, although the models were European specifications, differing slightly from what will be available in the U.S. The differences in the SQ6 e-tron are minimal—primarily related to power output—and it comes highly recommended if you can stretch your budget.

Both variants showcased impressive handling, benefiting from a low center of gravity that made navigating winding European roads a pleasure. Whether driving or riding as a passenger, the experience was enjoyable. The steering was responsive without being fatiguing, making it easy to tackle endless switchbacks. The SQ6 e-tron, in particular, strikes a remarkable balance between comfort and sportiness, with drive modes that allow you to tailor the driving experience, including tighter steering for a more engaged feel.

Regenerative Braking and Cabin Comfort

Regenerative braking in EVs can sometimes take some getting used to, as releasing the accelerator can feel like slamming on the brakes. However, in the Audi SQ6 e-tron, this transition was exceptionally smooth, creating a seamless driving experience that enhances overall comfort.

Moreover, the Q6 e-tron lineup excels in cabin quietness. Beyond the absence of engine noise, road and wind sounds are minimal, which is a hallmark of luxury vehicles. The Q6 e-tron certainly lives up to that expectation.

Both the Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron are well-mannered, enjoyable electric vehicles that could sway even the most dedicated internal combustion engine fans toward electrification. The 2025 Audi Q6 e-tron and SQ6 e-tron are expected to hit showrooms soon, with pricing and trim details yet to be revealed.
